Lakeside Pause

Lakeside Pause 18" x 24" 2005 SOLD There's nothing so relaxing as a pause by a lake on a hot summer day. This is one of the Vermillion Lakes with Mount Rundle a little hazy in the distance. On the far right hand side is the toe of Sulphur Mountain, the most ascended mountain in Banff NP thanks to an easy Gondola ride. Not a hard climb, though steep enough to exercise the cardio-vascular system. It used to be that you could hike up, and ride down free of charge. Not so today. The trees are part of a large fen with accessible trails through it. These lakes, which are little more than large, shallow sloughs, are home to much wildlife - moose, elk, bear and wolves - though more commonly eagles, and a variety of waterfowl, not to speak of dragon flys and mosquitoes. They are also a wonderful place to paddle a canoe. The water comes from some snow melt, but mainly from the Bow River, meandering at this point towards Bow Falls, before resuming a casual run to Calgary.
